Biography

I was born in Watchet in Somerset. Living by the sea I developed a fascination with ships at an early age. The romance of the sea has encouraged me to paint ships and dockyard scenes.

However, I was not to work with ships but I became employed in the aircraft industry making parts for all types of aircraft including Concorde. Commercial pressures and tight delivery schedules destroyed any pleasure in this industry and at the age of 50 I left to work with the railways.

Trains became my great passion. My paintings reflect the beauty and power that I saw in the magnificent engines.  I was inspired by the unusual and beautiful lighting effects generated by the north light in the railway sheds.  My extensive knowledge of the railways is applied to carefully worked paintings.  My fascination with all things mechanical is reflected in my detailed work.

I work in oil and watercolour and have studied art for 25 years.

When I am not painting I read biographical accounts of artists.
